Just Keep Swimming

(day 8 abc)

Finding Nemo is a Disney and Pixar movie.  One of the main characters is this little Blue Tang fish named Dory.  She offers the comic relief in the form of short term memory loss.  There is a scene in the movie where she has to swim down into a very dark chasm and she sings this song: “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, what do we do, we swwimmm!”  The funny part is that she has already forgotten why she is swimming down into the chasm.

What’s the point?  A fish has no choice except to swim.  Even when the world is upside down (belly-up?) as long as the fish is alive, it is going to be swimming.  It might as well be swimming towards a specific goal.  The lesson to be learned here: Don’t give up.

Writing can get very frustrating:  You are battling writer’s block, editing frustrations, publishing issues, lack of inspiration, etc.  Crafting can also get very frustrating:  You are battling every other crafter, lack of inspiration, technical difficulties, etc.  Sometimes, you might even wander “is this really all worth it?”

Most people give up just when they are about to achieve success. They quit on one yard line. They give up the at last minute of the game one foot from a winning touch down.” – Henry Ross Perot

YES!  It is all really worth it!  You have something amazing to offer to the world.  Don’t let them miss out on it just because you quit on that one yard line.  Persevere.  Not only will you accomplish something to your own pride, but I promise, that at least one other person out there is going to *love* what you do!

You’ve got to say, I think that if I keep working at this and want it badly enough I can have it. It’s called perseverance. – Lee Iacocca
